Dr. Donna Rowlette
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2 NIV)
Dr. Donna Rowlette is an associate minister at Set the Captives Free Outreach Center, a non-denominational Christian church in Woodlawn, Maryland, led by Pastors Linwood and Dr. Karen Bethea. She emphasizes the importance of Christians intentionally cultivating Christ-like thinking through the consistent practice of spiritual disciplines, particularly by regularly reading and studying the word of God.
Romans 12:2 instructs Christians not to “conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Dr. Donna shares that God creating humanity with a neuroplastic brain that can be changed as one regularly meditates on the word of God (Psalm 1:2) and as one thinks about things that are true, honest, just, pure, and lovely (Philippians 4:8), is an example of how beautifully humanity was knitted together to develop the mind of Christ. She informs Christians that due to the impact of technology, algorithms, and the desire to scroll excessively on our cell phones, the question is not whether we are renewing our minds. The question is, what are we renewing our minds with? She explains that the body of Christ must intentionally renew
our minds via the word of God!
